Isaiah 12 Commentary

(12:1-6) Gratitude to God - Isaiah offers his personal hymn of praise-another vivid description of the joy the people will have when Jesus Christ comes to reign over the earth. These verses preview what will take place as described in Isaiah 44-66. Even now we need to express our gratitude to God, thanking him, praising him, and telling others about him. From hearts filled with gratitude come deeply felt praise and the desire to share the Good News with others.

(12:4-5) Telling Our Story - God has revealed his love and salvation to us, so sharing the Good News with others flows from us naturally. Christians send missionaries around the world to tell this story. We also sponsor camps, outreach events, youth programs, Bible studies, and many other ministries with the purpose of telling others about God's love. Only some will be able to preach the Good News in front of thousands, but we can all help by serving at, inviting people to, and praying for efforts to reach out to those who haven't heard yet.

Dave Burnette's Life Application

Praise the Lord

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Isaiah with Chapter 12. In our text today, we hear the singing of God's praises for the great things He has done. In making application, we see that we too need to praise the Lord, Praise Him with singing, Praise Him for our Salvation, Praise Him for Deliverance, and Praise Him for He is Worthy. How about you? Do you Praise the Lord? Let us learn from our text today and the life of Isaiah to remember to Praise the Lord simply because He is Worthy.

Isaiah 12

Isaiah 12

1And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.

2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

4And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

5Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.

6Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
