Psalms 93 Commentary

(93:1-5) A Look Toward the Messiah - Jewish tradition claims that the next seven psalms (Psalms 93-99) anticipated some of the works of the Messiah. Psalm 93 is said to have been used in post-captivity temple services and may have been written during Sennacherib's invasion during Hezekiah's reign (2 Kings 18:13-19:37)

(93:5) Holiness - God's mighty eternal reign will be characterized by an atmosphere of sinless perfection, run by the God of perfect justice and love. Holiness will be the air we breathe in heaven. God's perfect moral character highlights his glory and will be seen everywhere. God will never do anything that is not morally perfect. This reassures us that we can trust him, yet it also demands that we be holy (dedicated to God and morally clean) as the only suitable response. We must never use unholy means to reach a holy goal because God says, "Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy" (Leviticus 19:2).

Dave Burnette's Life Application

His Greatness

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 93. In our text today, we see a theme of God's unchanging and almighty nature as His creation reminds us of His Great Power. In making an application, we see a testimony to our God's power through His Creation. This demonstration of His Greatness should encourage us to face any obstacle. If God is for us, then who can be against us? How about you? Are you facing a challenge in your life? Let us learn from our Psalm and text today to remember the power of our God by simply looking around us at the creation of our God.

Psalm 93

Psalm 93

1The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

2Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

3The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

4The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

5Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.
