Psalms 124 Commentary

(124:1-8) God Provides a Way - Do you ever feel trapped by overwhelming odds? God always provides a way out because he created all that exists. No problem leaves him puzzled; no circumstance wears him out. David compared our experience to a bird escaping the hunter's trap. We can turn to the Creator for help in our time of need, for he is on our side. He may not support all our plans and schemes, but he will be by our side. God will provide a way out; we need only to trust him and look for it.

Dave Burnette's Life Application

The Winning Side

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 124. In our text today, we see the theme of God being on our side, delivering us to victory against our enemies. In applying, we see that those who follow Christ are on the winning side. We might have our trials and battles, but rest assured that we win in the end. How about you? Are you on the winning side? Let us learn from our Psalm and Text today to remember God is on the side of those who follow Him, which should allow us to live in peace and victory no matter what we face. Understand that God will deliver us as we follow Him.

Psalm 124

Psalm 124

 1If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

 2If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

 3Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

 4Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

 5Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

 6Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

 7Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

 8Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
