Psalms 126 Commentary

(126:1-3) The Exiles - For an account of the exiles returning to Jerusalem, read the books of Ezra and Nehemiah.

(126:5-6) Restoration - God's ability to restore life is beyond our understanding. Forests burn down and are able to grow back. Broken bones heal. Even grief is not a permanent condition. Our tears can be seeds that will grow into a harvest of joy when we plant them in trust of God's sovereign plan. God can always bring good out of tragedy. When burdened by sorrow, know that your times of grief will end and that you will again find joy. Patient waiting seems difficult, but God's great harvest of joy is coming!

Dave Burnette's Life Application

Bringing in the Sheaves

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 126. In our text today we see theme of how God does great things. We see his power not only releases us from sin's captive hold but brings us back to Him. In making application, we see those who sow the word of God, watered by the tears of our prayers, will, in return, reap a crop of saved souls. How about you? Do you sow the seed of the Word of God to others? Let us learn from our Psalm and text today to remember that we need to share the Gospel as we pray for those we witness, too, so we will see souls saved as we rejoice while bringing in the sheaves.

Psalm 126

Psalm 126

1When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

3The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

4Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

5They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

6He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
