Psalms 140 Commentary

(140:12) The Lord Will Protect - To whom can the poor turn when they are persecuted? They lack the money to get professional help; they may be unable to defend themselves. But someone is always on their side-the Lord will stand by them and ultimately bring about justice. This should be a comfort for us all. No matter what the situation may be, the Lord is with us. But this truth should also challenge us to champion the poor. As God's people, let us defend the rights of the powerless and put our resources into action on their behalf

Dave Burnette's Life Application

Our Deliverance

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 140. In our text today, we see the theme of a prayer of protection against our enemies. In making application we see that our deliverance begins as we focus on our future with the Lord. As we give him our problems he fights our battles for us and he truly delivers us. How about you? Do you fight your own battles or do you give your challenges over to the Lord and allow him to deliver and protect you in your time of need? Llet us learn from our text today to remember that our Lord will deliv.er us as we give our burdens to Him and let him deliver us in our triasl in life.

Psalm 140

Psalm 140

 1Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

 2Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

 3They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

 4Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

 5The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

 6I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

 7O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

 8Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.

 9As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

 10Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

 11Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

 12I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

 13Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
