Psalms 145 Commentary

(145:4-7) Sharing Our Stories - How do we tell the next generation of God's might? We begin by making church attendance and biblical education central in the experience of our own children. We can also tell our stories of believing in Jesus. When did faith in Christ become personal and vivid for you? Use family meals and social events to share about Jesus. Talk about your experiences. Show your family and others in your circle of influence how God helps you through each day. 145:14 Sometimes our burdens seem more than we can bear, and we wonder how we can go on. David stood at this bleak intersection of life's road and meditated on the Lord, the great burden bearer. God is able to lift us up because (1) his greatness is beyond our understanding (145:3); (2) he does mighty acts across many generations (1454): (3) he is full of splendor and majesty (145:5); (4) he does wonderful and awesome deeds (145:5-6); (5) he is righteous (145:7); (6) he is kind, merciful, patient, loving, and compassionate (145:8-9); (7) he rules over an everlasting kingdom (45:13); (8) he meets all our daily needs (145115-16); (9) he is righteous and gracious in all his dealings (145:17); (10) he remains near to those who call on him (145:18); and (11) he hears our cries and rescues us (145:19-20). If you are bending under a burden and feel that you are about to fall, turn to God for help. He is ready to lift you up and bear your burden.

Dave Burnette's Life Application

Evangelism

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 145. In our text today, we see the theme of worshiping the Lord and then letting Him be known through the praise of the worshiper. In making applications, we see a pattern for evangelizing. Worship the Lord, then let Him be known from the praise of our lips. How about you? Do you worship the Lord? Do you share your praise with others? Let us learn from our Psalms and texts today to remember that evangelism starts with a heart of praise and worship.

Psalm 145

Psalm 145

1I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

4One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

5I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

6And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.

7They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

8The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

9The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

10All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.

 11They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

13Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

21My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.
