Psalms 98 Commentary

(98:1) The Coming of the Lord - This is a psalm of praise anticipating the coming of God to rule his people. Jesus fulfilled this anticipation when he came to save all people from their sins

(98:2-3) A God of Justice - He will come again to judge the world (98:8-9). God rules with both perfect love and perfect justice. He shows mercy when he punishes, and he treats everyone fairly. Praise him for his promises to save you and to return again.

Dave Burnette's Life Application

Sing a New Song

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 98. In our text today, we see a theme of a song of joy and victory, a new song of proclamation to the truth of who God is and what He has done. In making application, we see that because God is victorious over evil, all those who follow Him will be victorious with Him when He Judges the Earth. Today, it seems that some get away with evil, but as in the past, the Lord will deliver and judge the wicked. How about you? Do you see the victory of the Lord? Let us learn from our Psalm and text today to remember that our Lord brings victory, and knowing this, we too can sing this New Song, claiming the victory that is coming in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 98

Psalm 98

1O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

2The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.

3He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

4Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

5Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

6With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

7Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

8Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together

9Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
